Little Tai Hang: A Less Touristy Place to Stay in Hong Kong

On my second trip to Hong Kong, I stayed at Little Tai Hang, a boutique hotel and serviced apartment tucked away in the laid-back neighborhood of Tai Hang (just a short walk from Causeway Bay). I was only there for two nights, but it quickly became one of my top 3 favorite places to stay in the city. It had that cozy vibe I love, plus, it’s close to everything without feeling touristy or chaotic.

As much as I enjoy staying in city centers, I’m always on the lookout for places that feel a bit more local. And when it comes to accommodation, I’m a big fan of serviced apartments. They’ve got all the comforts that make travel easier: a kitchen, strong Wi-Fi, in-room entertainment, and often access to a gym or laundry. Little Tai Hang checked all those boxes and then some.

My Little Tai Hang Experience

Location & Accessibility

The easiest way to get to Little Tai Hang from Hong Kong International Airport is by taking the Airport Bus A11. The ride takes less than an hour, and the best part, no transfers needed.

If you’re taking the Ding Ding Tram, the nearest stop is Hing Fat Street, just a short 6-minute walk (about 350 meters) to Little Tai Hang. My family and I really enjoyed riding the Ding Ding Tram, so it became our go-to mode of transport while exploring Hong Kong Island.

From the hotel, you can also walk to the heart of Causeway Bay in under 10 minutes for shopping and dining.

Facilities and Restaurants

Little Tai Hang has 24-hour reception and security, plus great amenities like the guest lounge on the 5th floor, where you can enjoy free coffee and tea with a view. The 24/7 fitness room is perfect if you want to squeeze in a workout, and there’s also a complimentary self-service laundromat on the 7th floor.

And when you’re hungry? You don’t have to go far. Little Tai Hang is home to three unique dining spots: Que Pasa for Spanish tapas and paella, Tipsy for elevated European comfort food, and Ask for Alonzo, a go-to for hearty Italian dishes.

Check-in Experience

Check-in time was at 3 PM, and although we asked if we could check in earlier, the hotel was fully booked that day. So we waited at the lounge on the 5th floor, which was a cozy spot to relax. Luckily, by 2 PM, our room was ready. The check-in process itself was smooth and quick. Just a heads-up, there’s a security deposit required upon arrival, so make sure to bring enough cash or have a card ready. Once everything was settled, off we went to our room!

Studio Luxury Harbour View, Our Home Away From Home

Our room at Little Tai Hang was bright and spotless. The queen bed was just right. Supportive with plush pillows and a warm, soft duvet.

We had plenty of room to unpack and get comfortable without feeling cramped.

What I loved most were the large windows. They aren’t floor-to-ceiling, but they flood the room with natural light and frame a stunning view of Victoria Harbour and the city beyond.

There’s also a dedicated study area, which I mostly used as a vanity for makeup and skincare, and occasionally for catching up on a bit of work. In the evenings, we’d wind down with the flat-screen TV.

The bathroom was another highlight. It didn’t have that typical cold, sterile hotel feel. Instead, it felt warm and homey. The hot and cold shower worked perfectly (none of that annoying wait for hot water you get in some hotels—it was instant here!). They also provided clean towels, bathrobes, and a full set of toiletries.

kitchenette at Little Tai Hang

Now let’s talk about the kitchenette, one of the main reasons I love staying in hotel/serviced apartments. This is where we made breakfast every morning, and at night, it came in handy for reheating leftovers or late-night snacks.

Nespresso, tea bags and canned water

There was a Nespresso machine with a few pods ready to go, plus complimentary tea, water and instant coffee. We didn’t get through all of it, so I did what any practical traveler would do. Packed the extra pods and tea to take home. No shame. 😅

Final Thoughts (Would I Recommend Little Tai Hang?)

I know most tourists usually go for the popular spots like Tsim Sha Tsui or Mong Kok over in Kowloon. But personally, I really enjoyed staying on this side of Hong Kong Island. Being tucked away in the quiet neighborhood of Tai Hang gave me a chance to experience a different side of the city.

Honestly, if I hadn’t stayed at Little Tai Hang, I probably wouldn’t have explored this area at all… and that would’ve been a real miss.
