My search for the best places to stay also led me down a rabbit hole of Hong Kong’s serviced apartment scene. It was something I hadn’t really considered before, but quickly realized might be the ideal setup for short-term travelers like me, as well as expats and digital nomads.
Short-term visitors don’t exactly have it easy when it comes to renting in Hong Kong. Most traditional leases require a minimum one-year contract, unfurnished, and involve jumping through way too many hoops (utility setup, deposits, and landlord drama).
So unless you’re planning to move in for the long haul, your options are usually limited to hotels. While convenient, they can feel a bit cramped and soulless after a few days, not to mention expensive. This is exactly where the term aparthotel comes in, a hybrid setup that gives you hotel comfort and apartment-style living.

While it’s not smack in the middle of Central or Tsim Sha Tsui, that’s honestly part of the appeal, it’s well-connected without the constant buzz. You’ve still got easy access to grocery stores, cafés, and local eats just steps away, so you’re never far from anything you need.
My Experience at Townplace West Kowloon
Getting to Townplace from the Airport
Getting to Townplace was surprisingly easy, thanks to Hong Kong’s super efficient public transport. My niece and I took a bus straight from the airport to Tung Chung Station, then walked about five minutes to the MTR. From there, we hopped on the Tung Chung Line toward Hong Kong Station and got off at Nam Cheong Station, just a short walk from the aparthotel.
I originally considered the Airport Express, but since it doesn’t stop at Nam Cheong, it would’ve meant transferring at either Tsing Yi or Kowloon. In the end, the Tung Chung Line made more sense, and it was way more budget-friendly too.
Checking In: First Impressions on Townplace
From the outside, Townplace West Kowloon is striking, modern, sleek, and towering over one of West Kowloon’s most up-and-coming neighborhoods. But as I got closer, I realized it wasn’t just another concrete high-rise like so many others in the city. This aparthotel felt different. It’s vibrant. Thoughtfully designed. Like a piece of modern art that actually has soul.
When we arrived, my niece and I dropped off our bags at the reception so we could head out and explore Hong Kong Island. Check-in wasn’t until later in the afternoon anyway. But honestly, if we didn’t already have plans, I would’ve happily stayed in the lobby all morning.
It’s probably one of the best hotel lobbies I’ve seen. Bright, modern, and inviting without that cold, overly formal vibe some places have. I could’ve easily ordered an iced coffee, found a cozy corner, and just chilled there until check-in time.
But we had sights to see and a food tour in Kowloon to enjoy, so off we went! 🙂
Room Reveal: Here’s what it looks like inside the Grand Deluxe Studio
At 423 square feet, it’s not a massive suite, but it’s definitely one of the most well-designed spaces I’ve stayed in. My niece and I immediately loved how everything felt intentional and efficient. The bed area is framed by floor-to-ceiling windows that open up to sweeping views of Kowloon Bay, complete with ferries, tankers, and the city skyline in the distance. It’s a view that feels industrial and cinematic all at once. When the city lights come on at night, it’s even more incredible.
But let’s talk about the bed. It’s a queen-sized Simmons mattress, the kind you’d expect in a luxury hotel. The pillows were so plush, I knocked out the moment I laid down. Plus, there are power outlets and light controls conveniently placed on both sides of the bed, which is always a win.
Aside from the cozy bed area, I really loved the little living space moment, with a blue couch, a work desk, and a sleek HDTV. It was the perfect spot to hang out or get things done without having to perch on the bed all day. The Marshall speaker was such a vibe.
The mini kitchen was well-equipped, as expected. There’s an oven, electric kettle, mini fridge, and tons of storage space for snacks or groceries. The bathroom was just as impressive, with a spacious layout, a rain shower, and all the essentials.
TP Social Club
One of my favorite things about staying at Townplace was the TP Social Club, a massive 53,000-square-foot space where work and play blend seamlessly. Whether you need a co-working space, a quiet corner to focus, or a proper meeting room, the Think Tank areas have you covered. There’s even a Creator Studio for those who want to get hands-on with content creation.
For wellness, you’ve got everything from the Beast Studio gym to steam and sauna rooms, a basketball court, and my personal favorite, the skybound pool with stunning city views. And if you’re into running, the promenade by the pier just outside makes for a perfect morning route.
Final Thoughts (Would I Recommend Townplace West Kowloon?)
If you’re a first-time visitor to Hong Kong (or even a frequent flyer), Townplace West Kowloon is a solid choice. I honestly didn’t expect to love it as much as I did.
It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you could actually live in Hong Kong, even if it’s just for a few days. Between the cozy room, thoughtful touches, pet-friendly vibe, and that amazing sky pool, it checked all the right boxes for me. Photos and words honestly don’t do it justice. You kind of have to be there to get it.
Would I stay here again? 100%. And if you’re still undecided on where to base yourself in the city, this might just be your sign.
